What a year!
2023 has been another BIG year for the Engineers Without Borders movement! As an organisation, we have centred our efforts on two key pillars: reimagining education and reshaping practice, through which we are working to deliver systems change that will put global responsibility at the heart of how engineering is taught and practised.
Together, we’ve achieved so much! From the launch of our new tool, the Global Responsibility Competency Compass; the expansion of our global design challenges; our continued work with student Chapters and allied organisations; to the delivery of our ongoing Systems Change Lab with the Royal Academy of Engineering. And there’s still so much to come!

Coming in 2024
20 years of impact
2024 marks our 20th anniversary as a registered charity, and we are more excited than ever about the trajectory of the Engineers Without Borders movement. We are ambitious about the changes we can make to engineering education and practice, and believe that, together, we can ensure engineers play a pivotal role in supporting humanity and the planet to thrive. We welcome you to be part of the change.
To celebrate 20 years of impact, we’ll be sharing stories from those who have been on the journey with us. Whether you were an international volunteer, a Chapter member, a former staff member, or played any other part in driving the movement forward, we want to hear from you! If you have any stories, pictures or videos that you’re happy for us to share, please get in touch with us at [email protected]. Thank you.
Reshaping Engineering: Secure your place on the challenge!
Registration is still open for our global design challenge, inviting participants to design solutions that could reshape how engineering is taught and practised. Join hundreds of students and professionals in January 2024, as we work to ensure the sector is helping to create a safe and just future for all. Secure your place. (Deadline: 10th January.)
Reimagining engineering degrees: Discover the Systems Change Lab
The Systems Change Lab, delivered in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Engineering, is running until March 2024. Together, we are exploring and testing why and how to integrate global responsibility as a central feature within university engineering education.
The Lab will help to co-create a Reimagined Degree Map – a new toolkit that supports universities to navigate how to design degrees that create globally responsible engineers. This has been endorsed by the Engineering Council as a progressive interpretation of AHEP 4.
We have two more events in the calendar (January 9th and March 18th) that we welcome anyone who has the power to influence engineering degrees to join us for – whether you’re an educator, student, policymaker, industry representative, accreditor, or interested in understanding how we can transform engineering education. Lend your voice to this important movement.
Thank you for another great year!
We look forward to seeing where the momentum we have built in 2023 will take us in 2024, and hope you’ll join us for the journey!
