What is Reshaping Transport?

Reshaping Transport is an eight-week virtual design challenge that invites engineering educators, learners, and mobility professionals worldwide to develop sustainable mobility solutions for Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). This exciting programme aims to foster innovative thinking and practical solutions to enhance mobility in cities and regions that face unique transportation challenges.

Intended for those with or without extensive experience in sustainable mobility or engineering more broadly, participants will work on a real-world brief designed to expand their understanding of sustainable transportation and to develop ideas or approaches that prioritise environmental sustainability and social equity.

What’s involved?

The challenge

Participants can enter as individuals, self-selected teams or be assigned to a team combining various experience levels and expertise.

You are invited to address a real-world design brief, identifying a key challenge area within sustainable mobility before crafting a solution using the design thinking process. To support you, each participant/team will be paired with a professional mentor with expertise in sustainable mobility solutions. Your mentor will offer guidance and feedback throughout the design process.

The proposed designs will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges who are changemakers in the mobility sector, with the winners announced during a celebration event at the end of the challenge.

Your learning journey

Over eight weeks, participants will engage in a comprehensive learning journey based on the Global Responsibility Competency Compass. You will explore key resources to deepen your understanding of the sector’s challenges and the current initiatives aimed at addressing them.

Who can participate?

Reshaping Transport is designed for anyone interested in enhancing their professional skills in response to global mobility challenges. Whether you are a student, an educator or work in the engineering  sector or another field, have a technical or non-technical background, this challenge offers a valuable opportunity for growth.

We encourage participants to consider how this opportunity could contribute to your professional and curricula development or continuing education credits. The opportunity can also be discussed with employers about how the challenge could be integrated into their daily work responsibilities.

We would particularly like to encourage educators, students and professionals within low- and middle-income countries to take part.
