A new joint-venture of The Royal Academy of Engineering, UCL and Engineers Without Borders UK aims to understand whether and how global responsibility impacts on decisions in the engineering profession.

Fourteen volunteers talked to us about their experiences of working on our international projects.

Representatives from across the engineering profession, engineering charities and government gathered at Westminster Abbey yesterday to honour great engineers past and present, as part of celebrations for the Year of Engineering.

Humanity is currently facing some of the greatest challenges we’ve ever known: climate change, ecosystem failure, resource depletion, population growth and increasing inequality. This means we have to find new ways to engineer – for people and the planet.

Our 24 volunteer engineers and engineering students donated 19,040 hours of engineering to 12 partners across eight countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America in 2017 and 2018.

The winners of this year’s Engineering for People Design Challenge were announced at a special event in London last week. 36 of the country’s best teams battled it out to be crowned winners at the grand finals.
