Last week marked the exciting conclusion of the Reshaping Engineering design challenge, as we unveiled the winning solutions submitted by the 2024 cohort.
Delivered in collaboration with architecture charity AzuKo, over 200 participants from around the world once again embarked on a journey to reshape the future of engineering. Guided by the principles of design thinking and supported by mentors with expertise in globally responsible engineering, the teams delved into the critical issues facing the sector and developed solutions aimed at ensuring engineers are equipped to address 21st century challenges.
On Thursday 7 March, the challenge culminated with a virtual celebration event, as the winning teams – decided by an expert panel of judges, as well as a public vote – were announced. Explore the winning solutions below.

Reshaping Engineering
2nd place: Model Public Toilets with Bio-digesters & Off-Grid Power
Team RE24-003 presented a fantastic concept aimed at improving sanitation infrastructure in both rural and urban areas. The level of detail the team invested in their research, especially in terms of the strong referencing and knowledge of the topic area, impressed the judges.
Winning team: JOOTS - Jump Out Of The Silos
Team RE24-002’s creativity shone through with their innovative game idea, designed to break down siloed thinking. The judges commented on how refreshing it was to see something so different from other projects; something with the potential to truly reshape engineering.
3rd place: GREEN - Guided Renewed Education Encouragement Nexus
Team RE24-020 presented a simple and realistic certification concept. The judges understood how the solution could work in practice and were impressed with the team’s strong storytelling, which gave the submission credibility and authenticity.
People’s Prize winner: Engage
Winning the public vote, team RE24-033 presented a web-based platform that connects engineering stakeholders across the world and promotes sustainable and inclusive growth.
A huge congratulations to all of the teams who participated, whose designs can still be explored on CrowdSolve. We look forward to seeing where this inspiration takes those involved and hearing about how some of the designs evolve in practice.
