At Engineers Without Borders UK, we’re on a mission to put global responsibility at the heart of engineering. To help us drive this forward, we’re looking for a strategic and experienced leader to step into the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees.
The Chair plays a key role in shaping our governance and strategic direction, ensuring we continue to influence engineering education and practice for a more just and sustainable future. This voluntary role requires a commitment of around two days per month, with an initial three-year term (renewable once).
“We are at a pivotal moment in our journey to mainstream globally responsible engineering,” says our CEO, John Kraus. “With the right leadership, we can strengthen our influence across the sector and beyond – continuing to inspire, upskill, and drive real change.”
We’re looking for someone with credibility, insights, and strong connections within the engineering sector – spanning professional practice and higher education. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leadership and governance, along with a deep commitment to social and environmental justice.
This appointment follows the tenure of Mathew Riley, who has guided us through a period of transformation and impact. As Mathew prepares to relocate to the US, he leaves behind a legacy of progress. Reflecting on his time with us, he shared:
“Engineers Without Borders UK is an exceptional, unique organisation, and I’m proud to have been a part of it. The impact is clear – from the thousands of engineers mobilised to the communities supported. By integrating engineering with a purpose-driven approach, this movement is shaping a future where technology truly serves both people and the planet.”
If you’re ready to help shape the future of globally responsible engineering, we’d love to hear from you. Applications are open until Sunday 16 March 2025 at midnight GMT, with interviews taking place in late March and early April.
